Otitis Media with Effusion
Otitis Media with Effusion (OME) is a condition where fluid builds up behind the ear drum this usually occurs after a cold or an ear infection. Treatment is not necessary. There is no infection and the fluid clears up without treatment in 1-2 months. Persistent OME may interfere with a child's hearing and language development. If the fluid persists, the child may be referred to an ear specialist for a hearing test and if necessary, placement of ear tubes.
