Febrile Seizures

Febrile Seizures are seizures that occur with fevers and usually occur in children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years. The seizures usually last less than 15 minutes. Febrile seizures in general tend to run in families (genetic) and increase the risk of having seizures later in life. Febrile seizures usually go away without treatment; however it is important to contact your pediatrician to see if the child needs to go to the hospital to have further tests run to rule out more serious infections such as meningitis.
