Newborn Screening
All states have newborn screening tests that test for serious congenital diseases in which early intervention can lessen the complications. The newborn screening is done by a blood test shortly after your baby is born in the hospital and the results are sent to your pediatrician. A hearing screen is also done prior to discharge of your baby to identify hearing loss and direct families to appropriate services available.
